Persian cats still have some power of Purr-suasion over me
My wife is a huge fan of cats--almost to the point that we can no longer visit the humane societies because she becomes so attached to every little cat and kitten and wants to adopt them all and take them back home. We've had four cats in the past few months, two of which now reside with her parents. They're all cute little creatures for sure, but unless the cat is some incredible breed, like a Persian cat or a Norwegian Forest cat, my temptation to adopt is much easier to resist than my wife's.
My affection for Persian cats started when I was a teenager, and I was presented with a little Persian kitten when I moved into my first apartment. I'd never really owned a cat before, living and growing up in a dog-loving home, so I was a little resistant to this grey little puffball. Oh sure, I quickly warmed up to this little guy when he would always jump up on my lap for a snuggle and a purr. It was hard not to love this fluffy creature, especially when it acted loyal and loving--much like a dog!
Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend that much time with my little feline friend, as my landlord soon found out about my cute little pet. The rental agreement was quite specific about not having pets, and despite the persuasive looks and irresistable mews of my little Persian buddy, I just wasn't allowed to keep him.
Fortunately, I had some family friends who had a full-sized house and a couple of cat-loving young girls who were prepared to provide the second-home to my little grey friend--which they did eagerly, much to my gratitude.
So although I remain a dog-person and have survived a sheltie, a bordie collie, and now an Australian Shepherd, I still have a soft spot for cats, and an even softer spot for Persians. I'm just not sure my house is big enough to shelter all the cuteness that my wife always wants to bring home!
