If you're planning on adopting a dog, you had better be prepared to take care of your companion like its a member of your family. Because, well, it is, and it needs just as much love and affection as your children. A dog isn't an object designed to make a room look good, and it's more than just an accessory to hang off your arm while you're out for a walk. A dog is a living, breathing thinking animal who has feelings like anyone else.
As a dog owner, you want to make certain that dog health is a priority. Regardless of the type of dog breed that you decide to adopt, they'll all need different levels of exercise and grooming, as well as to learn proper training and eating habits.
It doesn't matter if you intend to own an indoor lap dog like a chihuahua, or an outdoor hunting dog like a Viszla (they're from Hungary), they'll all need to be treated with the same care and respect you would give to a child, a very hairy and four-legged child.
Dogs require care, they require attention, and they require love. If you're not prepared to give them all of those things that they need, then maybe you should wait until you can before you decide to invite a dog into your home and into your life. And when you are ready and properly prepared to do what is necessary for the well being of the animal, it'll be more fair for you and for your new pet. |
